About Us
Welcome to the Boerne Academy
Housed at the George and Baudelia Mitchell Learning Center, the Boerne Academy is a campus of choice available to BISD-enrolled students.
Our faculty provides students with the motivational support and educational instruction required to assist them in earning credit hours toward a Texas high school diploma. Texas Educational Agency-approved curriculum is presented to the students in a self-paced fashion, enabling the self-disciplined student to complete course work quickly. The staff of Boerne Academy takes a personal interest in each student while helping them set realistic goals that will hopefully lead to the realization of dreams.
Students seeking an alternative route toward earning a high school diploma may apply to the Academy. Admission into the program is a selective process that includes the involvement of the student and the student's parents/guardians, a recommendation from the student's home campus, and the approval of the Boerne Academy administration. A pre-admission interview will be conducted and student's transcripts, test scores and academic record will be reviewed.
Our Mission
Boerne Academy will educate, inspire, instill pride and create a positive atmosphere that supports students as they prepare for graduation and post-secondary success.
We offer a unique self-paced learning environment for students seeking a non-traditional educational setting.
About Our Namesake
George and Baudelia Mitchell were prominent business and community leaders. The Mitchells owned Mitchell Cleaners, a highly successful local business, and Mr. Mitchell was also with the Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Berges Fest, and Boerne Youth Athletic Association. Both Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell participated in many Crusaders Club projects around town, and he was also Boerne’s 1st President of the Crusaders Club. For many of these civic organizations, he was a founding member, a Director, or a president.
Mr. Mitchell was named Boerne Citizen of the Year in 1972.
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell raised five children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who went through Boerne ISD schools. One of their children, Gabriella "Gay" Polito, worked for BISD for decades before recently retiring. Mr. Mitchell did many great things for Boerne ISD, including dry cleaning the Boerne High School band uniforms for decades free of charge, as well as helping start a scholarship program for students, which impacted countless families in Boerne.
